Drug dealers nabbed with hydroponic dagga
Provincial Drug Task Team have been following information about drugs in the Durban CBD and surroundings in the past two days. They were gathering information and doing observation about drugs activities. This afternoon at 13:30, the members together with the Crime Intelligence arrested the first suspect at Umbilo area after he was found in possession of few pockets of dagga.
On further investigation, the members arrested the second suspect in Essenwood Road while he was in his vehicle. He was found in possession of pockets of dagga and is suspected of supplying drugs to drugs runners, R18 000 cash suspected to be drug proceeds was also found in his possession. He was questioned and he took the police to his container at Molweni area, Hillcrest where the members searched the container and found the hydroponic dagga plants. The street value of recovered dagga laboratory is more than R400 000. Both suspects aged 33 and 43 were charged for dealing with drugs and will appear at the Durban and Pinetown Magistrates' Court tomorrow.
The vigilance and determination by the Drug Task Team members to eradicate drug trade in the province is commended. We will continue with these operations to root-out the spread of drugs in the streets and we will ensure that we arrest and send all criminals to court for prosecution, said the KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa.
