Two arrested for alleged murder of elderly woman

EASTERN CAPE - Msobomvu Police detectives arrested two men aged 26 and 38 for alleged murder of a 70-year-old woman. The two suspects were also arrested for house robbery that took during the alleged murder. It is alleged that the 70-year-old woman was with her grandson on 22 December 2018 at about 04:00 at Bika Township, Butterworth.

The two suspects are alleged to fatally stabbed the deceased and then committed house robbery. They robbed plasma TV, play station, cellphone and laptop. Both suspects were arrested at Madiba Informal Settlement near Bika Township, Butterworth. The suspects were arrested on Monday, 15 April 2019. Plasma TV, play station and cellphone were recovered. The laptop is yet to be recovered.

The suspects will appear before the Butterworth Magistrate's Court on Wednesday, 17 April 2019 on charges of murder and house robbery.

Butterworth Cluster Commander, Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu praised the Msobomvu Police detectives for tracing and arresting the suspects. He condemned the murder of an elderly woman who could not defend herself.
