Impersonating police officers

GAUTENG – One male suspect was arrested for impersonating a police officer on 12 February 2020 around 10:20.

According to the law no private individual or company may make use of blue lights. The National traffic police official was obstructed on the N1 North while driving a marked vehicle by the unmarked white Ford Ranger with blue lights on the dashboard as well as on the vehicle grill between the lights.

The officer moved to the next lane, however when the Ford Ranger passed the officer noticed that the three occupants were wearing private clothes, the act raised suspicions and the officer immediately stopped the Ranger. The driver was interviewed and he stated that the vehicle belongs to the security company and he was escorting the VIP from Standerton municipality. The driver was placed under arrest for impersonating a police officer and escorted to SAPS Midrand for detention.

The vehicle will be taken to the police vehicle pound. The suspects will appear in court soon facing the charges of impersonating a police officer.
