Gang member arrested with firearm: Gelvandale

EASTERN CAPE – A 24-year-old gang member was arrested this afternoon 20 May 2020 by members of SAPS Gelvandale Tracing Team.
It is alleged that at about 15:00, the tracing team members acted on information received of a possible firearm at a house in Kobus Street in Helenvale. The suspect was found in the house and as members followed him, the suspect was seen jumping onto the kitchen table in an attempt to hide the firearm. The suspect was apprehended and disarmed.
The serial number has been filed off. The firearm will be sent to ballistics for testing.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Gelvandale magistrate’s court on Thursday, 21 May 2020 on a charge of prohibited possession of a firearm.
