Accused found guilty and sentenced for possession of drugs

MPUMALANGA – Ifeanyi Okoli (35) was found guilty and sentenced by the Standerton Magistrate Court on Monday, 17 October 2022 for possession of drugs, methamphetamine (Chrystal Meth) and methacathinon (CAT) after he was arrested by the Hawks Secunda based Serious Organised Crime Investigation on 18 May 2022 at Zamantungwa Tavern in Standerton.

Members of the Hawks in Secunda followed up information about the suspect who was peddling drugs. A search and seizure operation was conducted and executed at the identified address. Upon arrival the suspect was found in possession of drugs. He was arrested and detained. The accused appeared in court several times and he was then sentenced on Monday, 17 October 2022 to six years’ direct imprisonment of which three years are suspended for five years.

The Provincial Head of the Directorate For Priority Crime Investigation Major General Zodwa Mokoena welcomed the sentence. Major General Mokoena concluded by warning the community that crime does not pay and that people should abstain from using drugs because they are destroying families and the country.
