ALIWAL NORTH – SAPS members’ continues efforts to prevent crime yielded positive results in Aliwal North in two unrelated cases.
In the first incident, on 13 September 2022 at 02:15, in the morning hours, Sergeant Bulani of Aliwal North SAPS was conducting patrol duties at Somerset Street when he noticed a male hiding behind the electric transmitter (danger) box in front of “One Stop Shop.”
On closer investigation he noticed that a window was broken at the shop. When asking him why he did it, he said he was hungry and wanted something to eat.
The owner was then called and he arrived at the shop.
The suspect was arrested for business burglary.
He stole one case of 440 ml Coca Cola valued at R300-00 and one white loaf of bread valued R12.50 that were handed back to the rightful owner.
On the same day at 15:15, DOCC members were busy with crime prevention patrols when they came across a male digging out an electrical cable on the corner of Murray and Parklane Street.
The 14-year-old suspect was apprehended immediately and detained at Aliwal Police station. The correct procedure will be followed due to the age of the suspect.
The acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Asogran Naidoo commended the members on the arrests.
He once again emphasized the importance of crime prevention actions that have a positive impact on the prevention of crime.
