Bakkie transporting copper cable intercepted on R59

A white Toyota Hilux BAKKIE was intercepted on R59 road transporting copper cable in Vredefort on Friday 03 June 2022.

Vredefort SAPS members were activated with information about a suspicious motor vehicle moving on R59 road from Viljoenskroon towards Vredefort direction. Station Commander Capt Mohau Phera and R/Const Tselane Pekane spotted the vehicle in question on R59, about 1km out of Vredefort.

Four males were arrested for possession of property suspected to be stolen. The bakkie was also confiscated for being used in the commission of a crime. Copper cable was confiscated by the police, with an estimated street value of about R120 960-00. The suspected stolen property was confirmed to be the property of Transnet.

Suspects aged between 33 and 61 will be charged for possession of suspected stolen property. They are expected to appear in Vredefort Magistrate’s Court on Monday 06 June 2022.
