(CAJ News) TRADING activity at the Botswana Stock Exchange (BSE) has declined by over 29 percent over the past year but remains way ahead of pre-pandemic levels.Turnover during the period January 1 to February, 2023 amounted to P110 million (US$829 454), in comparison to P156,9 million in the corresponding period in 2022.Current year-to-date turnover levels are above the 2020 (P67,4 million) and 2021 (P68,0 million) levels.
erage daily turnover (ADT) recorded in 2023 (P2,7 million) was lower than that in 2022 (P4 million) is relatively higher than in 2020 and 2021.The top three traded companies during the period under review were Letlole La Rona (P46,9 million), RDC Properties (P18,3 million) and Absa (P12,1 million).The total turnover from these companies accounted for 70,3 percent of total equity turnover, with the leading counter Letlole La Rona accounting for 42,7 percent of total equity turnover.
In comparison to the same period in 2022, the top three traded companies accounted for 80,5 million of total equity turnover with the leading counter Chobe accounting for 30,7 percent (P48,2 million) of total equity turnover.Local companies contributed 67,6 percent to total equity turnover or P74,4 million in monetary terms while local individuals contributed 4,5 percent during this period or P4,9 million in monetary terms.
Foreign companies contributed 27,4 percent or P30,1 million to total equity turnover while foreign individuals and brokers contributed 0,5 percent (P0,6 million) and minute contribution to equity turnover respectively.The value of bonds traded during the review period was P251,7 million compared to P191,3 million traded during the same period in 2022.As at end of February 2023, the market capitalisation of listed bonds stood at P25,7 billion.
