Community advised on safety measures and road closures in Rustenburg

Police in the province together with security cluster departments and other role players in the Provincial Joint Operational and Intelligence Structure (PROVJOINTS) will be providing general safety and security during the African National Congress North West Conference over the weekend of 12 to 14 August 2022, in Rustenburg.

The activation and deployment of the PROVJOINTS role players is done to ensure safety at the conference, ensure minimum disruption to the day-to-day activities as well as to prevent crime in Rustenburg and surrounding areas. Joint law enforcement actions which entail general crime prevention, venues and event security, routes security and enforcement of the Road Traffic Act will be executed for the duration of the conference and a zero tolerance approach to lawlessness will be adopted.

The conference which is hosted at the Rustenburg Civic Centre, is expected to be attended by delegates from across the province, officials from the ANC, invited guests and the media and this is going to result in increased traffic and the possible closure of some thoroughfares especially in the vicinity of the Rustenburg Civic Centre.

Members of the public including motorists are requested to take note that, roads in and around the Civic Centre have been declared a traffic free zone from 18:00 on Friday, 12 August until Sunday evening, 14 August 2022. To avoid unnecessary congestions and undue delays, motorists and members of the public are humbly requested to avoid the undermentioned roads and thoroughfares for the duration of the conference.

· Heystek and Job Shimankane Tabane Road

· R24 – Engen Garage & Nelson Mandela (partial closure)

· R24 – Shell Garage Traffic Light (partial closure)

· Kloofweg and Greystone Traffic Light (partial closure)

· Bodenstein Park Stop Sign

It is important to point out that, the successful hosting of a safe and incident-free event is dependent on the cooperation of the public and key role players. The South African Police Service will not tolerate lawlessness from any quarter and anybody who intends to disregard or break the law will meet the full might of the law.

The public and conference attendees are thus, humbly warned and requested to cooperate with the law enforcement officials to ensure that there is general safety and that daily public activities that are not part of the conference are not adversely affected.
