CAPE TOWN – Members of Operation Restore were deployed for integrated operations at Mitchells Plain precinct on Saturday, 04 February 2023, where stop and searches were conducted. At around 20:00, they came across a white Citi Golf that was traveling in their direction and they stopped and searched it. While searching, they have found three big plastic bags containing 150 small sachets of tik. One suspect was arrested for possession of tik with an estimated street value of R30 000 and he will appear in the Mitchell’s Plain Magistrate’s Court once charged.
In another incident, drugs were found hidden in the bushes on Saturday, 04 February 2023, at 17:10. Alert members of Operation Restore were busy with an operation in Mitchell’s Plain when they noticed footprints from a known drug house in Beacon Valley. They traced the footprints to the bushes where they found 466 mandrax tablets in a shallow hole. The drugs were confiscated and booked in as exhibit at Mitchells Plain SAPS.
Furthermore, during the early hours of Sunday, 05 February 2023, while Table View police members were patrolling on the corners of Wood Drive and Sandowne Road, they noticed a vehicle in front of them failing to stop at a red traffic light. The members pursued the vehicle, indicating to the driver to pull to the side of the road, in order to ascertain the reason for failing to stop at the traffic light.
The driver of the vehicle complied with the officer’s instruction, and he explained that it was an ‘unsafe’ intersection for him that time of the morning, hence he did not stop. With permission of the occupant, the vehicle was searched. Inside the cubby-hole, the officers found two firearms. One of which had its serial number filed off. When questioned, the occupant stated that the firearm with the serial number filed off, belonged to his brother, but he could not provide contact details of his sibling. The other firearm belonged to the occupant, and he could produce a firearm license to the officers. Both firearms with 11 rounds of ammunition were confiscated.
The 26-year-old suspect from Langa is facing a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition and he will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court, once he is charged.
