Electoral Commission to host an “Active Young South African Citizens” Seminar

The Electoral Commission invites members of the media to a youth seminar, themed: “Building tomorrow Today: The Role of Active Young South African citizens in building and nurturing our Constitutional Democracy”

Details of the Youth Seminar are as follows:

Time: 09h00 – 16h30

Venue: Soweto Theatre, Jabulani

The seminar is a full-day program being organised by the Electoral Commission in partnership with youth organisations. Around 150 delegates, from organised youth formations, civil society, academia and civil service are expected to attend the seminar, which is intended to trigger conversations among the invited the youth about the importance of being active citizens who – like the generation of 1976 – contribute to building a South Africa of their dreams.

Panelists who will speak at the seminar are Seth Mazibuko a Chancellor of the June 16 Youth Foundation and former student leader, Dimpho League, Community Manager at the YouthLab, Mpho Moalamedi a Political Science and

International Relations graduate and well-known digital content creator, Letshabo Sebogodi, Coordinator of the Mogale City Youth Desk and Matsetselane Tleane from the Agape Youth Movement.

Discussions at the seminar are expected to track the evolution of democracy in South Africa, focus on encouraging participation in our electoral democracy, look at how the digital revolution can be an agent for democratic change in galvanizing the youth to participate in the 2024 National and Provincial Elections. The panel discussions will be moderated by Keabetswe Khutsoane, a Researcher and Lead Coordinator at Wits Health Consortium.
