Four suspects arrested for possession of prohibited firearms

WESTERN CAPE – Integrated efforts by members of the Maitland Flying Squad, K9 Unit and private security in the early hours of this morning landed four suspects between the ages of 19 and 36 behind bars for the possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition in Driftsands, Mfuleni.

The members followed up on information about firearms in a bush. Three 9mm pistols without serial numbers and ammunition were confiscated.

Once charged the suspects will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates court on the mentioned charges.

In an unrelated matter, members of the Maitland Flying Squad arrested seven suspects for the possession of a homemade zip gun with a blank round of ammunition and dangerous weapons in Morning Star this morning. The members received a complaint of a suspicious vehicle transporting firearms and drugs in Durbanville area. The vehicle was stopped and searched and a homemade zip gun and five knives were found in the vehicle.

The suspects will make their court appearance in Bellville on Monday, 2022-02-07.
