CSSL conducts post scrutiny oversight visit to enforce amended regulations on learner admissions process in public schools

The Legislature’s Standing Committee on the Scrutiny of Subordinate Legislation (CSSL) will visit Benoni’s Farrarmere Primary School to evaluate the level of implementation of changes made to Gauteng’s Regulations on Admission of Learners to Public Schools.

The regulations are a guiding framework provided by the Gauteng Department of Education for public schools across the province to develop fit-for-purpose learner admission policies.

In line with its comprehensive oversight mandate, the Committee previously thoroughly scrutinized the regulations to test for any unintended socio-economic implications on Citizens and the province. After proposing due recommendations and satisfying itself that the regulations were apt, the next step was for the Committee to conduct random oversight visits to Gauteng public schools to test the levels of implementation of the same.

The oversight visit has now been scheduled to take place as follows:

Date: Thursday, 18 August 2022

Time: 10h00-13h00

Venue: Farrarmere Primary School (44 Kwartz St, Farramere, Benoni Gauteng)

Parents of pupils, the school principal, support staff and members of School Governing Body (SGB) Federations will form part of the Committee’s visit to highlight any challenges encountered in implementing the regulations at schools.

The Committee will also use the engagement to gauge the levels of ongoing monitoring for any unforeseen implications of the regulations.
