MEC Nonkqubela Pieters awards top Performing Women in Agriculture, 17 Aug

Eastern Cape Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform (DRDAR) MEC Nonkqubela Pieters will award the province’s top performing women in the agricultural sector on Thursday, 17 August 2023 in Qumbu as part of the Department’s programme to recognise contribution of women in agriculture.

MEC Pieters will be honouring these women during the annual Women Entrepreneur Awards aimed at empowering women in agriculture by recognising their contribution in the province’s agricultural economy. The Department has supported several women owned enterprises involved in different agricultural commodities across the province as part of ongoing programme of the Department to commercialise agriculture, invest in their businesses to become sustainable. All women owned businesses participating in the provincial awards are winners of district awards where they took home top prizes in different categories earning the spot to compete in the provincial awards.

During the provincial awards, 15 women owned businesses will compete for top honours in the following categories; Best Female Worker, Best Subsistence Producer, Top Entrepreneur: Commercial, Top Entrepreneur: Export Markets, Top Entrepreneur: Processing and Top Entrepreneur: Smallholder. As part of her commitment to support people living with disabilities and youth in the agriculture sector, MEC Pieters will handover special awards to enterprises owned by youth and disabled people from the hosting OR Tambo District.
