Minister Angie Motshekga unveils newly built Rearata Primary School in Vergenoeg, 11 Mar

MINISTER OF BASIC EDUCATION TO RECEIVE THE NEWLY BUILT REARATA PRIMARY SCHOOL FROM SOUTH32 IN VERGENOEG, GA-SEGONYANE IN NORTHEN CAPE

The Minister of Basic Education Mrs Angie Motshekga, MP, will on Friday 11 March 2022, officially unveil the newly built Rearata Primary School in Vergenoeg, GaSegonyane Local Municipality, Northern Cape. The minister will be joined at the handover ceremony by Minister of Mineral Resources and Energy, Mr Gwede Mantashe (MP), the Northern Cape Premier Dr Zamani Saul and the leadership of representatives from South32.

The 14-classroom Rearata Primary School can accommodate 500 learners and was built at the cost of R20 million by South32 Hotazel Manganese Mines as part of the company’s Social and Labour Plan (SLP) as espoused in the Mining Charter. The company’s SLP seeks to promote employment, advance social and economic welfare, contribute to transforming the mining industry and ensure that mining companies contribute to the development of the areas where they operate.

The department welcomes the reconstruction of Rearata Primary school as it ensures that the infrastructural improvements are in line with the Norms and Standards of the DBE.
