Lamola offers South Africans a platform to lay complaints against Legal Practitioners

Minister of Justice and Correctional Services, Ronald Lamola will officially launch the Office of the Legal Service Ombud (OLSO) on Thursday, 2 June 2022 at the Protea Hotel Fire and Ice in Pretoria.

The OLSO is headed by retired judge, Justice Siraj Desai who was appointed by President Ramaphosa in December 2020. The Legal Service Ombud is created to promote an accountable legal profession in South Africa.

It will achieve this by safeguarding the constitution and the rule of law, protecting and promoting the public interest in relation to the rendering of legal services, ensuring fair, efficient and effective investigation of alleged misconduct by legal practitioners, promoting high standards of integrity in the legal profession and upholding the independence of the legal profession.

OLSO will offer the public a platform to lay complaints and report unethical behaviour against legal practitioners in the country in line with the Legal Practice Act.
