National Intervention Unit arrests armed suspect in Gugulethu

WESTERN CAPE – The National Intervention Unit in Cape Town seized a 9mm pistol and dagga weighing 10,5kg during a search and seizure operation in Gugulethu after they reacted on intelligence.

On Wednesday, 08 September 2022, members conducted an operation at a residence in Mbewana Street, KTC squatter camp in Gugulethu and found the suspect hiding next to his bed. During the search, a 9mm pistol was discovered and the officers proceeded to search a vehicle that was parked in the premises. They opened the bonnet of the vehicle and found 24 rounds of ammunition and in the boot a blue plastic bucket containing dagga.

A 35-year-old male suspect was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition and dagga.

Once charged, he will make his court appearance in the Athlone Magistrate’s court.
