KIMBERLEY – The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola had the privilege of announcing the appointment of several senior managers in vacant positions, today, 04 October 2022 at the Provincial office in Kimberley. This comes after many of the vacancies in the province were sustained for a very long period of time with the acting incumbents.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Northern Cape, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, accompanied by the Deputy Provincial Commissioner: Corporate Services, Major General Henriette De Waal and the Provincial Head: DPCI, Major General Kholekile Galawe in the presence of Provincial Management, the Provincial CPF Chairperson, Mr Homan and Labour Unions, presented the new ranks to the seven senior managers.

The newly appointed senior officers were promoted to the level of Brigadier effective from 01 October 2022 in various positions and environments within the province. The senior managers were promoted as follows:

Brigadier Johan Myburg, the Provincial Head: Organised Crime;

Brigadier Irene Kopeledi, the Provincial Head: Proactive Policing;

Brigadier Clayton Du Plooy, the Provincial Head: Serious and Violent Crimes;

Brigadier Schalk Andrews, the District Commander of Namakwa;

Brigadier Petrus Coetzee, the Station Commander Upington;

Brigadier Nicholas Mtongana, the Station Commander Kimberley and

Brigadier Zwane, the Provincial Head: Commercial Crime (Absent)

The Chairperson of the Northern Cape Community Policing Board, Mr Ephraim, in his congratulatory message, stated that from the side of the community, these appointments will bring stability to the province and this will send a clear message to criminals that together we will squeeze the space for them to operate.

Mr Wycliff Mkhontwana, the POPCRU representative indicated that the newly appointed brigadiers were promoted based on their work ethics, dedication and loyalty to the service and also stated that they must work harder and give an extra 10 percent in addition to the 100 percent they have already given and continue to serve the community.

Before presenting the new Brigadiers with their ranks, Lieutenant General Otola requested the officers to pick up the ball and continue as the message is clear of what is expected of them. The people of the province needs stability and commitment and they must be served with pride and diligence as they are the servants. She also reiterated that every person must be treated equally and must be treated like they would wanted to be treated.
