WESTERN CAPE – Continued efforts to rid our communities of the illegal drug trade and the distribution thereof led to the arrest of a 36-year-old male for the possession of ammunition and the possession of drugs in Zone 33, Langa. The members of the Provincial Extortion Task Team were busy with an intelligence driven operation at an identified premises and during the search found three firearm magazines with ammunition, 1000 madrax tablets, 1200 ecstasy tablets and 1000 units of heroin. The estimated street value of the drugs is R10 000-00. A white Mercedes Benz and a trailer were also recovered on the premises. Further investigation revealed that the vehicle was stolen during a robbery in Kirstenhof.

Once charged the suspect will appear in the Parow Magistrates court on the mentioned charges.

In an unrelated matter members of Operation Restore were busy with stop and search operations in Samora Machel on Wednesday afternoon when they searched a 21-year-old male and found him in possession of a firearm. The suspect had no license to possess a firearm and was arrested on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The suspect will make a court appearance today in Athlone.
