Members of SAPS Mondeor Trio Task team arrested two suspects, aged 27 and 31-years-old near Southgate on Thursday, 07 April 2022 for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The SAPS members reportedly chased a vehicle with two occupants after they noticed suspicious looking activity in the area. The suspects’ vehicle was shortly intercepted by the SAPS members on the M1 Freeway. A search led the members to recover ammunition and a firearm whereby the serial number was filed off.

Station Commander of SAPS Mondeor, Colonel Bezuidenhout commended his members for the swift arrest and recovery.

The firearm will be subjected to ballistic tests while further investigation is underway.
