Suspect arrested for possession of unlicensed firearm

BLOEMFONTEIN – On Friday evening, 25 March 2022, members from Parkweg Crime Prevention Unit were busy with patrols when they were stopped by a 32-year-old male at about 22:20, in Douglas Street. The complainant reported to the police that he was running away from another male who had pointed him with a firearm. He then took the police to the scene where he was pointed with a firearm and the suspect started running upon noticing the police vehicle.

The police gave chase and apprehended the suspect in one of the taverns in the area. The suspect was searched and a Rossi 38 Special Revolver was found tucked on his waist. The police asked the suspect to produce the firearm license and he informed them that he does not have a firearm license. The 31-year-old suspect was then arrested.

Two separate charges; one of Pointing of firearm and another of Possession of unlicensed firearm were opened at Parkweg Police Station and the suspect was detained in police custody. The suspect will appear in Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 28 March 2022.
