Three suspects arrested for business robbery and possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition in Manenberg

WESTERN CAPE – Three suspects aged between 38 and 47 were arrested by members attached to Maitland Flying Squad and Cape Town K9 units, on charges of business robbery and possession of prohibited firearm and ammunition on Tuesday afternoon, 07 February 2023.

The members, who are committed to remove illegal firearms and ammunition from the community, were searching for a vehicle, after a business robbery took place in Woodstock area. The vehicle was spotted in Manenberg area and were pulled over by both mentioned Units. The vehicle was searched and a firearm was recovered in the vehicle.

The suspects were detained at Manenberg SAPS and are due to appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 10 February 2023.

In an unrelated matter on Tuesday, 07 February 2023, a 42-year-old male was arrested for the possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and a smoke grenade. Members of the Anti-Gang Unit received information regarding a firearm and ammunition being stored at a certain address in Scheldt Walk, Manenberg. On searching the premises they found a 9mm pistol with 21 rounds of ammunition and a smoke grenade hidden in the base of a bed. A 42-year-old male was arrested and will appear in the Athlone Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 10 February 2023.

Furthermore, on Sunday, 05 February 2023 at about 21:00, members of Ocean View police executed a search warrant at a premises in Titan Road, Ocean view. After entry was gained, a pistol with serial number filed off and six rounds of ammunition were found hidden under a mattress. A 43-year-old suspect was taken into custody on a charge of illegal possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. He appeared in the Simons Town Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 07 February 2023 on the mentioned charges.
