Limpopo dam levels remain unchanged in comparison to last week

A weekly report on dam levels issued by the Department of Water and Sanitation has shown that Limpopo water volume is sitting at the same level as last week at 88.2%. During a similar period last year, the province’s overall storage capacity stood at 83.8%. The available water in the province remained at 1305.8 cubic metres out of a full capacity of 1480.1 cubic metres.

Polokwane Water Supply System with dams supplying water to Polokwane and surrounding areas is at 101.7% this is a minor increment from last week’s 101.5% and a notable improvement to last year’s figure of 90%.

The following dams have recorded increases, Vlugkraal Dam moved up from 99.2% last week to 100% this week, Flag Boshielo Dam has risen from 102% last week to 102.2% this week, Klaserie Dam slightly gained from 100% last week to 102.5% this week and Tzaneen Dam also experienced a slight elevation from last week’s 100.5% to 100.8% this week.

Rust De Winter Dam remained the same at 101.1%, Tonteldoos Dam is steady and unchanged at 100.5% and both Ebenezer and Hans Merensky Dams are also unmoved at 100.3% and 101.5% respectively.

Tours Dam dropped from 98.3% last week to 97.8% this week, Vergelegen Dam took a dip from 100.3% last week and this week it is at 99.7%, Modjadji Dam decreased from 56% last week to 55.3% this week.

The Department of Water and Sanitation has reiterated its call to residents to continue using water sparingly. The communities are also encouraged to report any water leaks and water infrastructure vandalism to local municipalities.
