Minister Barbara Creecy leads clean-up campaign ahead of Presidential Imbizo in Sedibeng, Gauteng<\/p>\n
Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Ms Barbara Creecy, will lead a clean-up campaign in Sedibeng, as part of the build-up of activities towards the Presidential Imbizo, scheduled to take place on Thursday, 11 August 2022.<\/p>\n
In 2019, during the launch of the Good Green Deeds programme, President Cyril Ramaphosa called on business, labour and civil society to perform just one \u201cGood Green Deed\u201d a day. This could include any activity from recycling waste to cleaning up your community. The Good Green Deeds Programme led by the Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) aims to promote environmental actions that take into consideration sustainable living practices. At the centre of this campaign are principles of environmental justice, an understanding that becoming environmentally conscious starts with one small action, and one small action can go on to inspire a global change.<\/p>\n
Thursday\u2019s clean-up campaign is also another platform for the Department to execute its Constitutional mandate of ensuring everyone\u2019s right to an environment which is not harmful to their health or well-being; and to educate the community on how to keep their environment protected for the benefit of present and future generations. In addition, the event aims to promote efficient waste management and good environmental for the metro.<\/p>\n
This is a joint outreach and awareness campaign with Sedibeng District Municipality, the Gauteng Provincial Government and DFFE.<\/p>\n
