TSOMO – SAPS members have arrested a 26-year-old suspect after a 90-year -old woman was found dead in her room in East Bank Locality outside Tsomo on Wednesday morning, 17 August 2022.<\/p>\n
Reports suggest that the deceased was sleeping alone in her room when the suspect entered the room and raped her. It is further alleged that he thereafter strangled her to death.<\/p>\n
The deceased was allegedly discovered by one of the family members who immediately alerted the police. The suspect was subsequently arrested and is believed to be related to the deceased.<\/p>\n
Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nomthetheleli Mene has welcomed the swift arrest and further condemned such incidents of gender-based violence. She called for a multi-disciplinary campaign to intensify education among communities in order to end the scourge.<\/p>\n
Cases of rape and murder are under investigation and the suspect is expected to appear before Tsomo Magistrate\u2019s Court once charged.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/p>\n
