WESTERN CAPE – Police members in the Western Cape went the extra mile on Sunday, 11 December 2022, when they arrested suspects in isolated incidents in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
\nDelft police members responded to a complaint at around 07:00. They noticed the suspicious vehicle which fitted the description and ordered the driver to stop in Ahaggar Street. The police members searched the vehicle and the driver and confiscated a 9mm Norinco pistol with ammunition. They arrested and detained the 33-year-old man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
\nIn an unrelated incident, Manenberg police conducted stop and search operations in Carol Court in Heideveld. At round 03:45, they noticed an unknown man who suddenly changed direction. The members gave chase and apprehended and searched the man and confiscated a 9mm pistol. The 25-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
\nMeanwhile Manenberg Police members responded to information about a person with a firearm. Whilst busy with patrols they noticed a person who acted strange and tried to flee when he was approached by the police members. The unknown man dropped an object into a nearby dustbin in full view of police members. The suspect was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
\nOnce charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Bellville and Athlone Magistrate court\u2019s on the mentioned charges.<\/p>\n
