Development: Sanwo-Olu urges residents to support traditional rulers

Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State has urged the people of Yafin Community in Badagry Local Government Area to support Aholu Abiodun Patinvoh – the first Aholu of Yafin kingdom, for the development and progress of the land.

Sanwo-Olu gave the advice during a ceremony to mark the three months Coronation Anniversary of the king at Yafin kingdom, Badagry on Saturday.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the new king received the approval with the Staff of Authority on May 27, 2023 through the Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs.

The governor, who was represented by Mr Olusegun Onilude, the Chairman of Badagry Local Government, urged the people to support the new king for him to achieve a lot during his reign.

He advised Patinvoh to bring development such as schools and social amenities to his community , so that his tenure would be remembered for good things.

In his speech, Onilude said that giving staff of authority to seven Aholu during his tenure, had shown that Sanwo-Olu was very close to the grassroots.

“The governor respects and honours tradition and culture otherwise he wouldn’t have done it.

“He has shown love to the people of Badagry,” he said.

Mr Setonji David, the lawmaker representing Badagry Constituency 2 in Lagos State House of Assembly, said traditional rulers were the custodian of culture in Ogu land.

David, who is also the Deputy Chief Whip, LAHA, commended Gov. Sanwo-Olu for approving more traditional rulers to communities in Badagry during his tenure.

The Chairman of the coronation anniversary, Aholu Saheed Adamson, the Aholu of Ajido kingdom, explained that Badagry had only one ruler before, and that it was the “Akran”.

“But now,we have over ten traditional rulers with the recent approval of two more Baales to kingship in the land.”

He urged the residents of Yafin kingdom to cooperate with the new king for development to come to their town.

In his remarks, Patinvoh, the Aholu of Yafin Kingdom, promised to carry along everyone during his reign.

“There is need for us to come together as one, as no meaningful achievement would be made without understand and cooperation

“I also promise to rise to the challenges so that history will put me in a place of pride,” he said.

Patinvoh commended Sanwo-Olu for approving the construction of access road to the community. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that many traditional rulers and chiefs from Lagos and Badagry Division, important dignities, political office holders, government officers and residents of Badagry graced the ceremony.
