DURBAN – Qiniso Majola (20) and Akhona Mkhize (22) appeared in the Ntuzuma Magistrate’s Court yesterday facing charges for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition. They were remanded in custody until 25 January 2022 for further investigation. On Sunday, 16 January 2022 at 11:30, police officers from the Durban K9 Unit were conducting patrol duties, when they received information about two men in possession of firearms in KwaMashu and proceeded to the scene. Upon their arrival at the identified location police requested to search the premises. A 9mm pistol and a revolver as well as eight rounds of ammunition were found in their possession. Both firearms serial numbers had been erased. The two suspects were arrested at the scene and detained at KwaMashu SAPS. A case of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition was opened for investigation.
